Times Square, New York
After pitching live television concepts to executives at ABC, the result was Eddie and his Imagineering team teaming with COLAB Architecture to develop this undulating LED facade for a breakthrough "live on the street" production facility, ABC's Times Square Studio. The design is meant to evoke an era in the history of Times Square when news tickers were the best method of disseminating breaking news to gathered crowds. The captivating flow of the LED lights gives a futuristic twist to news broadcasting. Erected for the millennium as the first example of "Media as Architecture" in Times Square and was quickly followed by many others.
Live studio programming is displayed on the exterior of the building making this design the first time that a television studio became part of a dynamic digital display and bill board. Since completion, the facade had been frequently integrated in to ABC television broadcasts and has become and iconic element of the ABC "Good Morning America" brand.
