The Skyacht One® Story

Skyacht One was born from an observation that became an inspiration.

"Why is the interior of your Bentley or Rolls-Royce a more romantic experience than your private plane?"

Eddie looked at many luxury items for inspiration and realized that private aircraft interiors lacked the legacy and "storytelling" that seem embedded in items of fine luxury. Most luxury goods predate modern aircraft. "So, what if you merged the two?" he mused. "Classic details borne of the last century, that "Golden Age of Travel" overlaid on a modern canvas? The mahogany of a fine yacht surrounding the windows, the precision and craftsmanship of a fine watch, but controlling a 4K display." In his research, he ran across Captain George Whittell Jr., a man who back in 1939, hired yacht designer John Hacker create a mahogany powerboat called the Thunderbird to match the design of his DC2 streamlined plane. (thunderbirdtahoe.org) Sotto pondered doing just the opposite. Imagine a flying yacht? All the craftsmanship and authenticity of those classic mahogany boats up there in the sky. Why not?

Sotto then contacted Jay Beever, VP of Design at Embraer Executive Jets who fell in love with the Skyacht notion and agreed that their flagship "Lineage 1000E" was the "ultimate" product for the ultimate gift. The Robb Report agreed and it lives today in their 2013 Ultimate Gift Guide. Jay and the Embraer team invited Sotto to their design studio in Florida to discuss the integration of the concept as each piece must seamlessly integrate within the Lineage. Eddie personally sketched each detail and reviewed them with their team to develop the stunning images you see here. Back at SottoStudios, research into the ornamental story of "Navigation" took place, with inspiration coming from 15th Century Italian Marquetry, French Armillary Spheres and Arabic Sextants. The design refined itself further with authentic Fornasetti furnishings and carpets being scanned into 3D for the final renderings. The process of estimating the cost and finishes also had begun in earnest. The story was complete. Now you can see it. This is Skyacht One™. The first exclusive creation from Eddie Sotto and Embraer Executive Jets. Only at Embraer could you merge the world of high technology with the luxurious world of high touch.
